Small Dog Crates and Their Importance in a Puppy's Life

The main reason why many people don't like having pets in their homes is that the puppy will always go to the bathroom all over the place until he is properly trained. With a little bit of work however and with the help of some small dog crates this type of problem can be easily taken care of.

The use of small dog crates can help protect your puppies from more that you being upset for their little accidents. Keeping them in a crate while you are away will stop them from hurting themselves or chewing on inappropriate things. But for right now, let's just look at how we can stop the dog from eliminating all over the place by using a crate.

First thing you need to do when the puppy is introduced to the house is also introduce him to the crate. When you feed him the first time, place the food in the crate, but do not leave it in there after he is finished.

Do the same with the water. If the crate you're using is of the right size, your little buddy will never wet the bed, because he knows that's where he is supposed to sleep. By the right size I mean as small as possible while still having enough space to comfortably move around.

It's important to never force the dog to enter the crate, or he will feel like that's a place he must avoid as much as possible. After you managed to get him inside the crate, just keep him in there for no more than 3-4 hours at a time, since at a young age he couldn't hold it in for that long even if he wanted to. You should also try just keeping him close by. If he is a very energetic dog, you might want to use a leash, but the point is to just keep an eye on him.

So that's how you keep him from doing it: constant surveillance. Now to teach him to only go when he is outdoors, all you have to do is get him out for walks as often as possible and reward him after he does it.

Now if one of those smelly little accidents does happen inside the house, you should never ever punish the poor thing. He wouldn't even know what that was for. What you should do is pick him up, show him what he did, say something like "No !" or "Bad Boy !". And after that, take him outside to continue the job and again after he is done praise him and give him traits. He'll get it eventually.
